Cupid 5K – In Memory of Karen Newman
February 15 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am
The Cupid 5K is back! Come run with your honey or maybe find a new love. When you register, you’ll be asked if you’re single or not. You’ll be assigned a bib custom designed for this event which will tell all the other runners whether or not you’re available. Start up a conversation over post-race refreshments and you may just find yourself a new running partner! This 5K course is an out-and-back which has a slight hill, but nothing too tough. All finishers will be awarded a Cupid 5K finisher’s medal. (See the first mock-up below.)
This year, the Cupid 5K will be in memory of Karen Newman. As we’re sure many of you know, Karen was near and dear to our heart. She began racing in our triathons many years ago and went on to win a silver medal for the Masters Age Group at 2012’s Triathlon World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand in addition to many other awards. That never made her “too big” to participate in local races. In fact, the Cupid 5K was one of her favorites and when she came, she was dressed to the nines! (See photo to the right.)
The world lost Karen in November 2019. In her memory, Racevermont.com will be donating a percentage of the net income from this race to Healing Winds and the Cancer Patient Support Foundation in her name. Donations are also welcomed at registration – both online and in person. If you’d like to make a donation, feel free to click the organization links to make a donation directly if you prefer.
Vermont Teddy Bear is sponsoring this race with their Cupid Bear. We’ll be giving one to the runner voted as “best dressed” by our runners. The top male and female winners will also win one.
Commemorative t-shirts are available for pre-purchase for $15. Order yours when you register while supplies last.
